Indeed, with The Office’s ninth season having been renewed, changes to the show’s cast are now being made. The first such addition for the forthcoming season is Catherine Tate’s Nellie Burton whose role will have been increased to a series regular, according to a report released by TV Guide
Tate’s increased role became possible given the events which transpired in the season eight finale, which saw Andy Bernard successfully complete his scheme to once again secure his position of regional manager from Tate’s Nellie.
With the exception of producer/ actress Mindy Kailing who portrayed the character of Kelly Kapoor since the show’s inaugural season, all of the previous cast members from the prior season will return in their respective roles for the forthcoming ninth season.
Kailing will now star on Fox’s new series along The Mindy Project. The show will follow a professional gynecologist named after Kailing [ though not based on her real self-] who must deal with the challenges of having a continuously unsuccessful romantic life.
