10 05 2010

Here are 5  measures which  can be  easily undertaken  to help prevent water pollution

 1.  Help conserve water by  shutting the tap when you  do not require  it to remain  operational. For example,  if have wet your brush then you should  keep the tap off while you are brushing instead of letting it run the entire time. This will help prevent  water from being wasted and  reduce your monthly hydro bill.

2.Do  not   dispose of items such as     paint or oils down the  drain or toilet.Appropriately place  such items in the garbage or recycling cans.

3.Only operate the dishwasher when it is full or you are sure  that  no further dishes will need to be loaded  later on. This way  you can  do fewer washes which will  not only conserve  water  but also  reduce your hydro bill and save  time. Also, if you are washing  your dishes, ensure that  you are not using any soaps which contain the contaminating  phosphates.

 4. Avoid littering  bodies  of water such as  ponds , lakes,  or oceans. Instead  you should   dispose of  uneeded items  in  the garbage  cans or recyclying  boxes.

5.Avoid using an  excess of fertilizers and pesticides as such    substances can contaminate water in the environment as they  can easily enter local runoffs during rainfalls.
